Our Core Philosophy
At the National Driver Safety Institute we believe that the potential of online educational content delivery has not been properly leveraged for the purpose of improving broad driver safety. We are changing this. Online learning is being utilized effectively for everything from postgraduate and masters degrees to complex technical training. Yet online driver improvement education has lagged in both specific design and targeted effectiveness.
The NDSI has developed unique, innovative driver improvement and defensive driver courses designed to maximize the educational benefits possible through online content delivery. Our course design philosophy targets the aspects of driver risks and skills most easily influenced and improved through online educational efforts. Online Educational Excellence
The National Driver Safety Institute focuses our educational content towards the maximum possible impact for online delivery. We build content designed from the start to be effective in an online learning environment with an emphasis on graphics, videos and fast paced content delivery - all designed to leave a lasting impression.
Focus: Student "Buy-In"
Recognizing the reality that any educational effort is unlikely to achieve meaningful objectives without the student being fully committed to both the need and process, the NDSI places a special emphasis on driving student "Buy-In" to our content. We accomplish through convincing narratives and a positive culture of explanation.
The Correct Mental Approach
The single biggest challenge for drivers today is embracing the correct mental approach to the driving task such that situational awareness is constantly maintained and learned safe driving skills can be instantly utilized in reaction to rapidly developing dangerous scenarios. The NDSI is relentless in our education focus on goal!
Situational Awareness = Able to React
In a driving reality choked with distracted drivers and high risk scenarios, the learned skills associated with maintaining a high state of situational awareness behind the wheel are critical for safety. The NDSI utilizes specialized teaching methods and content aimed at building these skills and making them into habit.
Teaching Skills & Making Them Habitual
When a driver has adopted the correct mental approach to driving and mastered maintaining situational awareness, they gain the ability to react when dangerous situations are presented. But to react both correctly and instantly the driver must know what to do and be able to do it NOW. That means putting to use good habits such as those taught by the NDSI!
Modern Risk Focus
While most driver education programs have remained consistent for decades, the driving risks surrounding us have changed! Distracted driving, smart phone use, unprecedented traffic congestion - all represent new levels of risk that drivers must be prepared for. NDSI course structures and content place an emphasis on these increased challenges!
Exceeding Regulatory Requirements
The driver education courses and content developed by the NDSI are designed to exceed regulatory requirements in all markets for which they are made available. This includes exceeding mandated course time requirements, testing and score requirements and including all regulatory content as defined by state guidelines.
